About this artwork
“Abstraction #154” is a small piece from the “Heart of Lava” series, inspired by the artist’s trip to Iceland. The composition captures the raw volcanic energy of the Icelandic landscape through a dynamic interplay of textures, materials, and colors. The central focus of the piece features layered earthy tones of beige, gray, and muted blue, evoking Iceland’s rugged terrain and volcanic ash.
The textured surface, with its mottled and worn appearance,… suggests the natural erosion and geological processes that shape the island’s dramatic landscape. Surrounding the central panel are torn and layered materials, including mesh and paper, that add depth and dimension, symbolizing the interplay between the raw power of nature and human emotion. The vibrant red accent on the right edge injects a sense of fiery energy, reminiscent of molten lava.
My work is based on the transformation of the forgotten and discarded. As an artist based in Valencia, Spain, I have spent decades exploring the boundaries of painting, and in recent years I have discovered a powerful new language in abstract collage. I am drawn to materials with a history: old papers, industrial remnants, fragments of cardboard; each with its own silent narrative. Through a process that balances chance and precision, I integrate these elements into layered compositions, where texture and materiality evoke the geological and the organic.
Sustainability is fundamental to my practice. By rescuing and reusing materials, I seek to raise awareness about our relationship with nature and the everyday objects we often overlook. My collages are not mere visual explorations; they are meditations on memory, transformation, and the beauty found in what others discard.
