About this artwork
The Green Island
Chromanarrativism
In The Green Island, I explore the silent contradiction between freedom and isolation. Through intense ocean blues and an organic green structure suspended in mid-air, I create a place that seems to offer absolute refuge from the noise of the world.
Within my Chromanarrativism, color doesn't represent a landscape, but an emotional state. Blue becomes immensity and silence, while green symbolizes life, hope,… and connection with nature. However, this apparent freedom also reveals fragility: even the most remote paradise depends on something external to survive.
The island appears suspended between attraction and vulnerability, between the desire to escape and the human need to belong. The work invites us to question whether total freedom truly exists… or whether every form of freedom inevitably carries with it a degree of loneliness.
Born in Austria in 1971, JOWU transformed his life into a work of art. After restoring an ancient castle, he found refuge and truth in painting. A self-taught artist, he developed Chromanarrativism: a pictorial practice where color ceases to be merely decorative and becomes a vehicle for conveying states of being, tension, and transformation.
