About this artwork
This series of etchings stems from an introspective gaze upon the primeval landscape. 'Black Sky, Red Earth' is an abstract exploration of duality: the weight of the earthly versus the density of the infinite.
Through the use of two copper/zinc plates, the artist superimposes layers of color that evoke an emotional geology. The red is not merely pigment, it is the flesh and rust of the earth; the black is not merely shadow, it is the presence of… a sky that presses upon and molds the form. Each print in this series is a record of resistance and balance between two elemental forces.
I only printed one engraving; the series was never completed.
