About this artwork
La Pêche du Jour was born from a simple and familiar image: the bistro chalkboard, the market sign, those popular typefaces we no longer notice but which adorned the walls of our childhood. My grandfather collected posters. This culture of direct, slightly cheeky imagery that speaks to everyone—it has never left me.
I embroidered this piece like one designs a poster. The orange-red lettering on royal blue, the white swirls, the frame sewn like a… printed border. At the bottom, the fish cut in half with its still slightly surprised look—a gentle, subtle cruelty, that of the market in the morning, of ordinary life going on.
Thread does what ink cannot: it adds relief, texture, and a sense of time. What could have been printed in a second was stitched stitch by stitch. That's what interests me—slowing down what passes quickly.
Juliette Livet works with hand embroidery on raw fabric, drawing on her training in graphic arts and her experience in art direction. She skillfully blends graphic lettering, contemporary embroidery, and pop-culture aesthetics, allowing the fabric itself to express a raw and tactile authenticity. Through her work, she infuses it with gentleness and poetry, reminding us of the importance of memories, everyday life, and the sincerity of simple emotions.
