Inspiration from Kalevala. A Finnish folk lore of Goblin's elk. A demonic elk created by the Hiisi goblins, who send it to create chaos, tease hunters and lure them to the perilous mountains of the underworld. I wanted to turn the story upside down and create a positive story of a magical elk that takes you to the place beyond the pines where everything is possible.
Crafted from aspen wood and clay, finished with oil paints. I envisioned this stag… with a flourishing tree as antlers, symbolizing growth and the cyclic link between all living forms. Each bird perched delicately represents moments—fleeting yet significant. Placing this in your home brings a piece of the wilderness indoors, offering a daily reminder of nature's quiet majesty and interconnectedness.
Jyri Tuunainen, a multimedia sculptor, predominantly employs wood and occasionally utilizes ceramics or paper clay. He carves surrealistic creatures with hand tools and power tools, producing an artistic symbiosis of natural organisms. In his works, there's a profound exploratory narrative, stirring emotions of unity, potential, and the importance of nature.
Jyri unpacks his own feelings about life and the world into works. The style is peculiar. It is a mixture of surrealism and realism. Each work has a deeper meaning at the bottom, but the most important thing for him is to create the most beautiful entities that are a joy to the eye and the mind.
