About this artwork
The raw structured landscapes are a new original series made from pictures I took during my travels in and outside Holland. Last summer, my family and I went on holiday to Brittany, where we visited the town of Saint-Malou on July 14. You could walk there on the beautiful city walls, and slowly, the water from the beach disappeared. Beautiful rock formations and lots of rock emerged, so beautiful that I couldn’t stop taking photos. When I got home,… I started working on this painting based on the pictures I took that day. Edited with Gel medium, oil paint, acrylic paint, and a semi-gloss varnish. Artwork is created by combining photography, digital editing, and painting due to the layered structure and vibrant colors. It almost seems as if this work comes to life when you stand in front of it. You can lose yourself in the details. The effect is practically 3D. I created this piece by hand on a high-quality wood panel with a satin coating.

« I combine the digital and tangible, so I combine two worlds together. »
Karin Vermeer is an independent artist who has lived and worked in Rotterdam since 2002. Her works are created by digitally combining and editing photographs and paintings into new, original works of art. Vermeer specializes in portraits created by overlaying and blending four to five different faces, of different race and origin, to create a new, non existing person. The digital images are printed and paint is added to achieve the final result: an attempt to make a digital image tangible once again.
