About this artwork
This abstract mixed-media painting has many layers and a lot of structure. The artwork is created on a 120x120cm aluminium 3d frame with photography, printed on paper, glued to the canvas and finished with gel medium for the structure, acryl, oil paint, and oil sticks. I applied it with brushes, sponges, pallet knives, and fingers. It is an on-off-a-kind original, ready to ship worldwide. The title of this work is Turquoise Opal, named after a gemstone…

Karin Vermeer is an independent artist who has lived and worked in Rotterdam since 2002. Her works are created by digitally combining and editing photographs and paintings into new, original works of art. Vermeer specializes in portraits created by overlaying and blending four to five different faces, of different race and origin, to create a new, non existing person. The digital images are printed and paint is added to achieve the final result: an attempt to make a digital image tangible once again.
