About this artwork
This mixed media work is inspired by the old chestnut trees along Burgemeester Meineszlaan in Rotterdam. Based on the same photograph I took this spring and previously used for a smaller painting, this new, larger version explores a different emotional response to place, time, and transformation. Where the earlier, smaller work used silver, red, and blue, this interpretation translates the tree's fresh spring growth into a vibrant palette of yellow,… green, and blue tones combined with silver chrome paint. The result is a layered surface that balances energy with subtlety, creating a depth that shifts with the light throughout the day. The work combines digitally manipulated imagery with traditional painting techniques and is mounted on a 3D aluminum canvas, finished with a substantial 6cm-thick float frame hand-painted in a matching green.

« I combine the digital and tangible, so I combine two worlds together. »
Karin Vermeer is an independent artist who has lived and worked in Rotterdam since 2002. Her works are created by digitally combining and editing photographs and paintings into new, original works of art. Vermeer specializes in portraits created by overlaying and blending four to five different faces, of different race and origin, to create a new, non existing person. The digital images are printed and paint is added to achieve the final result: an attempt to make a digital image tangible once again.
