About this artwork
While in Freiburg, I was inspired by a victory monument with several soldier sculptures. However, the figure of a single soldier particularly caught my attention, and this figure later lived on in my drawing.
Here, a very curious soldier stumbles upon a richly filled treasure chest. He breaks open the lock, hoping to discover much gold and precious stones. But in reality, he opens Pandora's box and unleashes all manner of catastrophes, which burst… into the air like a living cloud of smoke swirling with bats.
