About this artwork
This portrait of Anton Bruckner was created in 2024 at the Steyrling lime works, on level 770 of the current voestalpine industrial site. The location was deliberately chosen to combine landscape, history, and music.
The composer is not depicted as a historical figure, but as an expressive, multifaceted form. The fragmented color structure of the face reflects sound, movement, and inner intensity – a painterly translation of music.
The work references… a local historical event: Anton Bruckner demonstrably played the organ in the church in Steyrling, and his travels took him on foot through the landscape that is now part of the industrial area surrounding the lime works. The painting was created within this tension between nature, history, and modern industry – as a tribute to a composer whose music continues to resonate across space and time.
Karoline Kornek creates multifaceted abstract works full of emotional resonance, movement, and depth. Inspired by nature, memory, and human vulnerability, she combines intuitive gestures with experimental materials and a powerful expressionistic visual language.
Since 2006, the Austrian artist has been working with acrylic paints, printing techniques, clay and process-oriented methods characterized by dynamism, structure and the dialogue between rough and smooth surfaces.
Her works emerge from an intuitive creative process and invite viewers to perceive mindfulness, freedom, and fragility as inner sources of strength. Between tension and stillness, pictorial spaces open up that invite not only observation but also emotional experience.
