About this artwork
his painting was inspired by a quiet morning in the Estonian wetlands, when the first sunlight began to filter through the trees. I was captivated by the contrast between the cool shadows and the warm glow of light spreading across the forest floor.
Through transparent watercolor layers, I wanted to capture a fleeting moment of stillness — a moment when nature seems to pause and everything is filled with silence and light. The long shadows, delicate… branches, and soft atmosphere reflect my deep connection to the northern landscapes that inspire much of my work.
This painting is part of my ongoing series Silent Wetlands, dedicated to the quiet beauty of Estonia’s forests and wetlands.

Born in Ukraine and now based in Tallinn, Estonia, she has found in the medieval city an endless source of inspiration. Her cityscapes capture what architecture alone cannot: the atmosphere of a winter morning on Toompea Hill, the warm glow of Christmas lanterns in the Old Town, the quiet dignity of ancient stone in rain.
Working with watercolor on paper, Kateryna embraces the medium's inherent unpredictability - the way water moves, light shifts, and edges soften. Her technique merges architectural precision with painterly spontaneity, inviting the viewer to pause and breathe inside a captured moment.
