About this artwork
A symbol of the creative force and liberty - an emblem between worlds that inhabit space. These goddess figures are not passive muses. They are protectors, intermediaries, and at times, avengers—calling forth the dark, often suppressed forces of the feminine interior.
The work is influenced by what has been called ‘die Philosophie vom ‘bösen Sex’ und ‘gefährlichen Beischlaf’—the notion of sex as danger, and rape as a means of social control, embedded… across religious and mythological traditions. These stories are not holding on to the past, but shaping how bodies—particularly female ones—are read, handled, adorned, and controlled.
Katharina Gruber, seasoned fashion designer turned visual conceptuakl artist, combines her skills in garment construction and sculpting. Her art is an alluring blend of Greek mythology and the contemporary feminine experience, vividly invoking otherworldly goddesses. Her work isn’t just fashion but an evocative portrayal of memory and mythology, stirring feelings of empowerment, defiance, and transformation.
