About this artwork
This playful yet thought-provoking trio captures the awkwardness of trying to make life work—literally and figuratively. Each figure, bent and stretched into exaggerated poses, appears determined to fit onto their canvas, accepting limitations, testing boundaries, or simply making do. The humour in their contorted forms invites a chuckle, while the deeper message asks: What uncomfortable positions do we find ourselves in while navigating life’s challenges?… Measuring Up 1 and 2 is a lighthearted exploration of adaptability, resilience, and the universal struggle to "fit" while staying true to oneself.
Katja Reichert, once a performer, found her voice in various artistic disciplines including painting, sculpture, and textiles. She creates through a bold, intuitive style in mixed media, where acrylic, oil, crayon, and found objects converse in vibrant layers, guided by organic emotions and narratives. Her chaotic yet exquisitely human themes evoke a deep dialogue on connection, transformation, unseen narratives, and our collective, beautiful imperfection.
