About this artwork
This work was inspired by a memory of Molybdomancy (“lead pouring”) but the main idea here is to leave a sample, a footnote of this tradition to the next generations. The golden (imit) bead at the centre refers to the uniqueness of the experience in which the results may differ from person to person.
Story: Molybdomancy (“lead pouring”) was a tradition in the family fifty years ago which is supposed to help against bad luck (Nazar). My Granny was… melting the lead and pouring this into the water. Then she was making comments over the shapes. I was six or seven when they tried to apply this “rituel” and I strongly objected to this by assuming that molten lead to be poured onto my head directly. After long discussions, I finally had accepted to sit on the chair. They covered my head and body with a large muslin, held a cup full of water over my head and dropped the molten lead. And my Granny made her comments on it. This work was inspired by this memory.

Kenan K., born in Turkey 11 August 1956, pivoted towards art as a freelance oil painter in 2006. He largely adopts an undefinable style that falls between the informal and conceptual, developing unrepeatable, intuitive pieces imbued with unpredictable, experimental techniques. Often dancing between explicit themes and abstract concepts, his art evokes diverse emotions and sparks vital conversation, casting light upon the cognitive dissonance embedded within society.
