I collect images already laden with history from the street to shift them into a different mode of perception. With The Girl with the Balloon, based on an exhibition poster dedicated to Picasso, I am not seeking quotation or decorative homage, but a zone of ambiguity where the visible cracks and where the implicit morality of images reappears before our eyes.
The collage is constructed on a sheet of drawing paper coated with gesso, enriched with… fragments of posters and traversed by vertical tears that slow the viewer's perception. I deliberately shifted the relationship between the figures and made one of the characters less easily defined sexually, in order to open up a question without confining it to a single answer or imposing censorship. The final hashtagging, in red, white, and black, refocuses the image on the awareness of the gaze. This work, from the Tribute to Painters / Picasso series, is part of my LARTBATARD approach: transforming the urban fragment into a critical memory.
I created LARTBATARD, a form of artcycling born from urban collage, to offer contemporary art lovers images that resist simple “scrolling” and invite them to look differently. Using torn posters, printing inks and gestural painting, I develop six families of MadeReady (PhotosReadyMade, MadeReady_Paper, MadeReady_#Paper, MadeReady_Ink#artRevues, MadeReady_PaperInk and MadeReady_DrawInk) which replay the signs of our time and reveal its tensions. My series question identity, the body, migration and the memory of struggles, in a world saturated with images where every face seems replaceable. My works have circulated in galleries, in residences and online, in France and internationally; each piece functions for me as an archaeology of the present, a fragment of humanity to collect before it disappears.
