About this artwork
Kerry's original image for this acrylic painting came from a personal photoshoot of her female model underwater. She loved the energy and dynamic pose of the girl looking like she was about to "take off" - and the light gently capturing her face and chest while the rest of her was in shadow. To Kerry the image speaks of transformation - leaving what is past and moving towards a brighter future. The outfit / colours also give Wonder Woman vibes…
- a sense of "I can do anything".
Using contemporary art techniques she started with a wet-in-wet expressionistic background, allowing the poured, dripped, and splashed paint to bleed and blend to create a moving underwater environment. Keeping with a loose purple and yellow palette she also wanted to keep the bright bathing suit of red and blue - resulting in a colourful painting. The figure has been spray painted in using pop art stencilling techniques, and she finished of the painting with further painting by hand layering.
