About this artwork
The painting is done with metallic, interference, as well as UV (blacklight) pigments. What appears gray on the screen are metallic pigments similar to an aluminum plate. Interference pigments change color depending on the angle of view and lighting. UV pigments glow under UV light. The combination of half-shadow light (or, for example, candlelight) and UV lighting creates infinite variations of the painting, as seen in the detailed photos.

It is inaccurate to speak of abstract painting. Abstract may be the idea of a perfect circle, but those paintings that we call non-representational are about a physicality of color, a brushstroke, or contradiction and unity. The painting process takes is of utmost importance in those pictures.

Konstantin Grabowski, a painter with traditional roots, creates art using modified techniques. He combines modern painting techniques, such as applying paint with silicone spatulas, and uses the effects of the oil and water soluble properties of egg tempera, in parallel with traditional paint making.
