About this artwork
Kim's painting reflects a line-based language, defined by layers and color combinations. She tries to be true of herself while she works on each painting. She believes directness of acting and being is the way to one’s true nature. Zen teaches that we spend years forgetting and abandoning this nature, but that we can always access it again. On a blank canvas, she starts by applying a coat of primary color, then composing one line after another, repeatedly,… answering the call of intuition. What she creates flows directly from embracing the experience of making art.
« I strive to create pieces that speak for themselves. My work is the product of intuition and an unrelenting trust in the process of expressing what comes from within. »
Lacey Kim is an emerging South Korean artist based in the United States whose paintings have been featured in solo and group shows internationally. Practicing art ever since she was a kid, Kim defined her style in a line-based language exploring layering and color combinations in oil on canvas. Working intuitively, her abstract paintings are characterized by bright colors and gestures full of movement and kinetic rhythm.
