About this artwork
My painting is completed by drawing lines on the canvas and gradually filling the screen. In my imagination, the lines on the screen continue to extend and connect even when they leave the screen, and when they return, they settle on the canvas, and the shapes that each line creates are made instantaneously by following an intuitive response rather than by finding a point that I have already imagined through thought. In the past, in order to create…
new layers, I would completely cover the filled lines on the screen with a color close to the background color and repeat the process.
When each moment is revealed at once and displayed on the canvas, it is natural to think of all the beings in it, including myself, and to want to connect with them at the same time. The expression of myself through this work, which is expressed through intuitive gestures on the canvas, is ultimately a respect for all other beings that exist.

Lacey Kim is an emerging South Korean artist based in the United States whose paintings have been featured in solo and group shows internationally. Practicing art ever since she was a kid, Kim defined her style in a line-based language exploring layering and color combinations in oil on canvas. Working intuitively, her abstract paintings are characterized by bright colors and gestures full of movement and kinetic rhythm.
