About this artwork
I raise one hand and sweep it wide, drawing a line in the air. It's not hard to find myself in the moment. Even if I suspect that the thinning of the trajectory has already occurred, the act is not erased, and the mark remains. Perhaps this most straightforward and most direct act itself is the most appropriate demonstration of my living and being in this moment more than anything else. I believe that my sincerity is naturally expressed in the act…
of drawing lines, which is the result of intuition and represents my inner world as it is.
I've worked primarily in oil for a long time and in watercolor on the side for the past 5-6 years. The intimate experience of the paint on the brush touching the surface creates a sensory resonance that rises and falls in me every time, no matter what kind of paint I use, and with watercolor, by its very nature, doesn't create a noticeably thick layer on the surface, which allows me to focus more on each brushstroke.

Lacey Kim is an emerging South Korean artist based in the United States whose paintings have been featured in solo and group shows internationally. Practicing art ever since she was a kid, Kim defined her style in a line-based language exploring layering and color combinations in oil on canvas. Working intuitively, her abstract paintings are characterized by bright colors and gestures full of movement and kinetic rhythm.
