About this artwork
A dark mass tears through space in an oblique movement, streaked with white flashes like fragments hurled into the void. The surface is shaped by a dense, almost granular material where deep blacks, muted greens, acidic yellows, and incandescent reds collide. On the right, emerging from an unstable field, an animal form is revealed: a stylized fox’s face, suspended between apparition and dissolution. The whole scene is bathed in an atmosphere of… drift, like a dream caught in cosmic turbulence.
Interpretation:
At the heart of the composition, a tension settles between two worlds: compact darkness, nearly engulfing, and the fragile radiance of the living figure. The white forms crossing the dark area evoke pages, bursts of thought, or remnants of memory carried away in an unreal breath — a direct reference to the surrealist imagination. The fox, an ambiguous messenger, emerges like an instinctive consciousness, a cunning guide between wakefulness and dream.
Laura Buruiana is a multidisciplinary artist and internationally acclaimed concert cellist of Romanian origin, based in France — a cellist by day and a painter by night. Her artistic language translates sound into matter through impasto layers, rhythmic scraping, and chromatic tensions shaped with brushes, palette knives, and unconventional tools. Her work balances lyricism and structure, spontaneity and control, transforming musical resonance into a tactile visual field.
Following a recent physical and psychological aggression that led to hospitalization, painting became an essential refuge — a space of reconstruction and inner renewal. In a remarkably short time, her work has gained international recognition, earning over ten awards and leading to eleven exhibitions and art fairs across Europe and the United States in less than six months.
Her canvases embody a deep emotional density — a material music that holds, restores, and endures beyond time.
