About this artwork
In the Brazilian highlands, there is a moment at dusk where the red earth and tropical humidity turn the atmosphere electric. As the sun drops the earth glows pink. The houses, lose their hard edges and start to vibrate. I hope to have captured this sense of the mountain breathing and the hum of lives settling in for the night. This highlights the unique verticality of Brazilian life: the "morro", where houses don't just sit on the mountain but seem…
to become apart of it. This is the memory of the mountain after I've closed my eyes. In the context of the Brazilian House Series, this moves away from literal house and threshold structures toward "the soul of the neighborhood."
