About this artwork
Hummingbirds have a long history of folklore and symbolism in native cultures. The Aztecs saw them as messengers between them and their ancestors or the gods. In Native American culture, Hummingbirds are seen as healers, and bringers of love, good luck and joy.
This textured painting is created in several layers of oil paints, with palette knives and fine brushes on a deep edge canvas, painted around the sides. There is gold leaf on the birds which… shimmers in the light, much like the feathers of a hummingbird. The whole composition draws the viewer in, like a warm embrace
