About this artwork
The canvas captures the dazzling majesty of a pelican, whose head seems to emerge from the white void that surrounds it, creating a striking contrast between the animal and the minimalist background.
The pelican is depicted with great finesse: its long, slightly curved beak dominates the composition, its hues oscillating between shades of pale yellow, gray and soft orange. Its lively eyes, circled in white, immediately captivate the eye, giving… life to this imposing but peaceful presence.
The feathers, although suggested rather than detailed, are drawn by textured and light brushstrokes, mixing tones of light gray and beige, creating an impression of softness and movement. This head seems to float in a timeless space, as if the surrounding white represented a luminous void or an invitation to imagine the rest of the bird.
Laurent Bergues is a prize-winning French artist who has exhibited his paintings nationally and in Switzerland. For him, art is an adventure, the outcome of which he never knows until it is completed. Bergues believes that even the smallest aspects of the creative process are at the service of efficiency. His semi-figurative compositions are painted using acrylics, pastels, and graphite on canvas or cardboard.
