About this artwork
"Birchlight Reverie" is a luminous celebration of nature’s quiet awakening. This original mixed-media painting captures the serene yet vibrant energy of a Colorado woodland, inviting the viewer into a peaceful sanctuary. Tall, graceful birch and aspen trees stretch skyward, their white bark masterfully textured with a palette knife and punctuated by bold, black markings.
I build the captivating, tactile surface with thick, buttery strokes of paint,… creating an impasto effect up to 1cm deep that evokes the rough bark of real aspens and the dynamic energy of a forest alive with light. The foliage breathes with fluid movement—lush greens ripple alongside bursts of warm orange and golden yellow, capturing the ephemeral dance of seasonal change. In the foreground, clusters of vivid red blossoms provide a striking pulse of color, their organic shapes weaving through the scene like notes in a flowing melody.
This piece harmonizes impressionistic energy with a touch of realism, perfectly

Notice: Creative sabbatical in effect. New acquisitions and international shipments resume mid-March 2026.
Based in Denver, Lena Owens (OLena Art) bridges classical Russian training with the rugged beauty of the Colorado Rockies. Using palette knives, she transforms oil and mixed media into sculptural, tactile layers that oscillate between realism and abstract expressionism. Her work is defined by an "architectural grip" on dimension and a quiet poetic power that invites viewers to feel the raw energy of nature.
Owens’ practice is rooted in tradition yet maintains a contemporary aesthetic, featuring rich impasto and dimensional surfaces. Beyond original paintings, her legacy includes photography and digital fresco art under the OLena Art brand. Her works are held in private collections internationally and are available as originals, fine art prints, and licensed designs. Lena welcomes bespoke commissions for custom textured florals, landscapes, or abstract compositions.
