About this artwork
The Seated Demon, a large-format painting in the abstract expressionism technique, is the first work-interpretation, in which the image of the Demon from M. Vrubel's painting "The Seated Demon" gradually emerges from chaotic expressive gestures. The artist was inspired by the expressive technique of Joan Mitchell. Such an implex refers to the poetry of the Romantic era, in which the landscape corresponded to the inner state of a person. Vrubel was…
obsessed with the image of the Demon from M. Lermontov's poem, having endowed his Alter-Ego with this image, which transformed along with the images of the Demon in his paintings. Mitchell turned to the poetry of W. Wordsworth, where his poem "Tintern Abbey" describes the development of human consciousness as a sequence of changes in several internal "I", each of which corresponds to a special internal landscape and the psychological portrait of the hero opens up from a new perspective.
