About this artwork
I walk these East Bay trails often, drawn to the changing light across the golden hills beneath Mount Diablo. In this painting, I wanted to capture the quiet rhythm of an ordinary moment — a figure and dog moving through the landscape as late afternoon light transforms the grasses into glowing bands of gold.
Using expressive brushwork and layered color, I focused on the atmosphere and movement of the land rather than precise detail. The warm ochres… and luminous yellows contrast with cooler greens and distant blues, reflecting the fleeting beauty of Northern California’s summer landscape.
For me, this painting is about connection — to place, memory, and the restorative calm found in nature and everyday walks through the hills.
