About this artwork
"Prophet, Priest, and King," a large oil on canvas 48 x 60, highlights Christ's relationship to three specific animals in Scripture. First, His work as the Great Prophet spoken of in Deuteronomy 18:15 and 34:10, is represented by the donkey. The donkey would often carry prophets on their mission and was a significant sign for the recognition of the soon-and-coming King of Zechariah 9:9 and Matt 21:5. Second, the lamb represents the Lamb of God who… takes away the sin of the world (John 1:29), the Passover lamb of Exodus 12:3-14. The sacrificial work of the Lamb signifies the priestly office of Christ. Third, the lion represents the kingship of Christ, as the Lion of Judah (Gen 49:9-10). Though He dies as King of the Jews on Golgotha ( the Place of Skulls, John 19:17-19), He reigns as King over all the earth, as King of Kings and Lord of Lords in His second coming (Rev 19:16).
