In this work on paper, I delicately and restrainedly explore the male figure in a resting posture. The athletic man is depicted seated, his body naked except for a cloth tied around his hips. Painted in oil on medium paper, the figure seems to subtly emerge from the support, in a controlled economy of means that leaves ample room for the breathing of emptiness.
The tones of blue and natural sienna structure the image with sobriety, playing on cool… and warm contrasts to model the human form without weighing it down. This chromatic choice, restrained but expressive, accentuates the meditative dimension of the scene. I impose nothing: I suggest, touch. The measured pictorial gesture enhances the material of the paper as an integral component of the composition, almost like a silent breath between the touches of oil.
Far from the anatomical demonstration, I propose here a sensitive vision between masculinity and vulnerability.
« [I seek to] be free while accessing vulnerability, to call the viewer to that which is intangible. »
Lisbeth Buonanno is an award-winning French artist whose work has been exhibited in Singapore, Paris, and Guangzhou. Buonanno creates her own materials and glazes and is interested in the small, universal moments of life. Influenced by American realism, her works are both charming and haunting. A vein of nostalgia runs through these slices of life, each of which has a luminous quality and tells a captivating story.
