About this artwork
A deer, like an apparition, turns towards the observer, in front of a stormy sea, between its horns it has the luminous symbol of the tree of life. The work mentions the episode of the conversion of St. Eustace, in which the animal embodied Christ who appeared to convert him. The choice of the tree of life instead of the cross universalizes the episode by exhorting the observer to undertake his own path of conscience, which, like that of the sephirahs…
of the cabal, leads towards the Adam Qadmon, that is, the elevation as a rediscovery of the own roots, as the discovery of the primordial nature of man in communion with the divine. In this sense the deer is also a symbol of belonging to the natural world, as well as the sea, with all its power.

« My art is a meditative act. My goal is to seek my elevation by depositing the fruits of my inner work on the canvas. »
Lorenzo Sperzaga is an Italian painter whose works have been widely exhibited on a national level. Inspired by the Baroque, his paintings feature subjects with dramatic expressions, and contain symbolism associated with spiritual themes. He also explores the interplay between light and shadow, and the symbolism inherent in both. Sperzaga's artistic process focuses on the 'emotional condition' and concentration. He creates using oils, enamels, and acrylics on canvas.
