About this artwork
I grew up in the Tuscan hills, and they have now become a true place of the soul for me.
The hills of the Val d'Orcia are so rolling that they look like sculptures sculpted by nature, which is why I chose to paint them with a palette knife on wood, to best showcase their plasticity.
In this painting I also experimented with an expressionist use of light, as the golden light of dawn, rendered expressive by the use of the spatula, which gives it… materiality, and by the craquelure effect, reveals the magical and metaphysical face of the Tuscan countryside and transforms this glimpse of the Val d'Orcia into a fantastical universe.
This work was exhibited at the Art3F International Contemporary Art Fair, in the Principality of Monaco, in 2022.
