About this artwork
Esther is part of my Dark Tales collection, a series that reimagines familiar stories through a psychological and surreal lens. This painting was inspired by the character from the psychological horror film Orphan.
The work explores the contrast between innocence and deceit, beauty and darkness. Through dramatic lighting, emotional tension, and subtle symbolism, I sought to portray the unsettling duality of Esther’s nature, a reflection on the hidden… complexity of the human psyche.

Luís Parreira
Portugal
Luís Parreira is a self-taught figurative artist from the Azores, Portugal. From an early age, painting became his form of expression and self-fulfilment. He began with realistic charcoal and pastel portraits, later evolving into imaginative oil paintings that merge realism with fantasy. Inspired by feminine beauty, fashion and mythology, his figures exude strength and elegance, often with a penetrating gaze. Drawing on Renaissance techniques, he creates striking contrasts of light, shadow and colour. His works have been exhibited in Portugal and internationally, captivating audiences in New York, Paris, Barcelona and Rome, and are part of private collections across Europe and the United States.
