About this artwork
In my neighborhood in Rennes stands this strange "cigarette" tower. It's the former headquarters of France Télécom, designed and built by Louis Arretche. The building is called the Mabilay. Its geometric lines, its rounded windows, and this unusual tower between the two sections of the building invite contemplation. At its base, if the water is calm, it's reflected in the Vilaine River like a perfect mirror. The window panes create a bluish reflection…
on clear days; in the evening, the setting sun sets them ablaze. I chose to depict it with these daytime blue reflections and let it float in the air like the spaceship it reminds me of.
