About this artwork
In my work, I explore the playful interplay between realism and abstraction. Pastel colors allow for smooth transitions and create the illusion of three-dimensional forms. The model I used was the folds of a plastic bag, which usually receives little attention in everyday life. However, I make the folds the main element of the image, removing them from any context. This makes the size and context ambiguous, allowing viewers to lose themselves in… the light and shadow of the folds.
Luka Topp, raised in a family of artists and trained in masterful painting, works both experimentally and realistically with color and materials. She uses pastels for smooth color transitions and abstracts forms to create depth, dynamics, and structure simultaneously. Her works convey the play of light, surface, and depth, and the often overlooked magical potential of the everyday.
