M Kennedy Volcofsky is a self-taught visual artist working almost exclusively on paper. Paper's fragility - and its connection to writing, to the book - gives the creative act's inherent violence voice - in tears, rips, uneven surfaces, holes - retaining the reality of chance and permanence - so the truth of aliveness has its say in what remains - and what otherwise might be an error becomes essential. Embodying tensions of desire, both abstract and recognizable … Hopefully the work - what is seen - also looks back and so has a quality - beyond the visible - of a call.
