About this artwork
This work marks a turning point in my octopus series. While previous paintings were characterized by an explosion of color, this canvas opts for a much more serene and introspective feel.
This is what this new artistic path suggests:
The Fragility of the Organic: Here the cephalopod seems to fade into the background. The use of cream tones, soft ochres, and off-whites suggests an almost translucent skin, evoking a sense of vulnerability and delicacy,… which is what I want to express.
In this case, I prefer to opt for chromatic minimalism. By reducing the palette and letting the turquoise act only as a depth accent in the lower corner, I invite the viewer to focus on the texture. The suction cups are drawn with a certain detail, almost anatomical, but they blend into an ethereal atmosphere.
The painting doesn't convey the struggle or movement of the sea, but rather its silence. It's a piece that abandons the "noise" of color to focus on the poetics of line.
Maite Granados López, trained in Fine Arts, uses painting, drawing, and sculpture as means to immerse herself in an “imaginary ecosystem” inspired by the seabed and Mediterranean light. Her technique, inherited from Fauvism, favors transparencies, expressive brushstrokes, and the bold use of turquoise, fusing academic gestural technique with experimental freedom. Her works convey calm, honesty, and a profound emotional connection, inviting the viewer to pause, breathe, and reconnect with the serenity of the sea through color and the beauty of imperfection.
