About this artwork
The painting measures 150x110cm.
The painting presents an organic, amorphous form composed of overlapping layers of sepia and graphite-black pigment flowing against a light background. The delicate interpenetration of tones and soft, fluid transitions create a sense of depth and the gradual disappearance of shapes, exploring the boundaries between control and randomness in the creative process. The stain, with its varying density and saturation,… reveals subtle inner contours and fragments with a more pronounced edge, lending the composition rhythm and inner tension.
The artistic gesture here is subordinated to the process – the painting is created through the controlled absorption and pouring of the medium, and its final form is a result of the interaction between water, pigment, and the ground. The work operates solely through the relationship between light and shadow. The work is distinguished by its sparseness of means of expression and its pursuit of minimalism.
Maja Gajewska is a Polish artist who has exhibited her paintings in Switzerland, France, and Poland. Rejecting figurativeness for internal structure, her compositions are characterized by her minimalist approach. Gajewska continuously searches for new forms, lines, and connections between colors. Creating in various mediums, which include spatial installations, illustrations, and graphics, she paints using oils on canvas.
