About this artwork
An 80x60cm oil painting framed in a natural oak frame (83x63x3cm with a frame).
The painting employs a subtle scale of cool blues and whitened grays, creating a quiet, almost meditative space. Delicate tonal transitions evoke the horizon line, yet are not a literal representation. Softly diffused light seems to permeate the canvas, introducing a sense of depth and breath.
The darker, slightly subdued edges of the frame create a frame that draws… the viewer's attention to the center of the composition, simultaneously heightening the sense of intimacy and concentration. The minimalism of form and the sparseness of the means of expression lead the viewer toward contemplation. This is a painting of silence and balance, in which harmony stems from the tension between blur and structure, light and shadow, presence and the almost complete disappearance of form.
Maja Gajewska is a Polish artist who has exhibited her paintings in Switzerland, France, and Poland. Rejecting figurativeness for internal structure, her compositions are characterized by her minimalist approach. Gajewska continuously searches for new forms, lines, and connections between colors. Creating in various mediums, which include spatial installations, illustrations, and graphics, she paints using oils on canvas.
