About this artwork
"The Provocation" was born out of my playful and experimental spirit. From fragments of dried acrylic paint, I created a work that thrives on movement, structure, and vibrant colors. The bold tones fill the space with warmth and visual energy.
The title "Provocation" refers to the sensual effect of the painting: The brilliant colors and tactile textures remind me of the sweets of my childhood—a mixture of desire, memory, and play. A glossy layer… of resin covers the surface, giving it an almost liquid feel and inviting the viewer to explore the work up close.

I am María Gutiérrez, a visual artist from Bogotá, Colombia. In my artistic practice, I work with two focuses: painting and photography. Both media enable me to create emotional, atmospheric, and contemplative spaces that invite connection with oneself, one's surroundings, and nature. I completed my art studies in 2009 at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia with a focus on photography. I then taught art and photography at private schools in Bogotá for four years. In 2012, I moved to Germany. I later continued my studies at the Stuttgart State Academy of Fine Arts and successfully graduated in 2021. Since then, I have been working as a freelance artist. Today, I live in Freiburg im Breisgau with my husband and our two children. My work has been exhibited in Colombia, Ecuador, Germany, Switzerland, and Spain, among other places.
