About this artwork
Oil on cotton
This work is an integral part of my process as a painter, as I use the sheets daily to clean stamps, brushes, paint trays, and so on. I also use them as tools for various interventions on the artwork, mostly scraping; all the chemicals I use end up on these rags. I've sewn these pieces of sheet together, giving them a sense of purpose, and I also apply a final touch to them to complete the piece. Furthermore, it brings me peace of… mind and a sense of commitment to the natural environment. Beauty is all around us, and here I wanted to reclaim it from objects that, initially, would have been thrown away.
« An artist is the hours you dedicate to your work. »
Marc Janus is a Spanish artist whose paintings have been featured in several solo and group exhibitions nationally. His intention is to convey beauty through his art, as it is "everywhere and you just have to stop to look". Janus' research into the wooden blocks used in ancient Egyptian culture to decorate fabrics has influenced his artistic expression over the past twelve years. He creates order then destroys it, producing an engaging balance that lives in chaos and disorder.
