About this artwork
The sprout, the word refers to the small plant that, after being planted, sprouts, grows, and becomes tall. In this case, wheat, the source of wealth, is what has fed so many people and continues to do so today. These are childhood memories that come back to me.
« One becomes art when grown up, one can see with the eyes of a child. »
Marcello Scarselli is a painter and sculptor based in Italy whose works have been featured in solo exhibitions nationally, as well as in France, Austria, Belgium, Germany, England, Portugal, Switzerland, Croatia, and Japan. He believes that each of us has "a courtyard" from where we draw upon memories of animals, objects, symbols, and characters. It is this place, that Scarselli describes as his fantasy world. Through "free gestural signs", he expresses alternating moments of joy, euphoria and suffering.
