About this artwork
This painting represents a journey through the fine line that exists between waking and sleeping. Reality seems to be a convention that we consciously project. We cross over and over into the dream state. Its REM phases and deep sleep offer us experiences that many times we dismiss as absurd, disconcerting, and even horrible in the case of nightmares, but which are full of symbolic content. Dreams that are sometimes lucid and that if we realize its…
architecture we can direct its argument. This succession of dream events sometimes have the keys to our lives in which we are looking for a solution. The face with the eyes open actually represents the dream state, as if it were the immense part of the iceberg that we do not see, and the face with the closed eyes that emerges from it, symbolizes the daily reality, like the tip of the aforementioned iceberg. A great paradox, dreaming to be awake, an idea that the author shares.

« "I am a restless artist who thrives on surprise. I delve into the subconscious, unlocking the mysteries of inspiration. I don't paint the work, the work paints me." »
Marcos Carrasco is a Spanish painter who has exhibited in the United States, China, the Netherlands, Belgium and Spain. His classically inspired contemporary pieces delve into the geography of the human form and how the “skin landscape” transcends the physical and evolves into creation. Reconciling abstract creations and the figurative, Carrasco begins with the first layer in acrylics then adds oils. Next, he digitizes the piece, which is printed onto various materials such as wood and aluminium.
