About this artwork
Blue works within the full range of a single colour taken to its extremes. Cerulean and sky blue open the lower field in broad generous strokes, light and expansive. Deep teal and near-black occupy the upper left, heavily worked and physically dense, the paint built up in multiple passes with visible directional marks throughout. A pale pink field holds the upper right, soft and unhurried, the warmest note in an otherwise cool composition. Where… the dark mass meets the lighter blue below it, yellow-green surfaces briefly, the one unexpected colour in the painting, cool enough to belong and warm enough to surprise.
The surface has genuine physical variety: thick and textured where the dark teal was worked most heavily, thinner and more atmospheric in the blue and pink zones. A dark mark descends through the lower centre, grounding the composition without containing it.
A painting that rewards close looking as much as it does distance.
Part of the Colors collection, 2019. 24"×24"
Margaret Lipsey is a Montreal based abstract artist whose work moves between intuition, gesture, and emotional clarity. Her paintings hold the tension between structure and surrender, revealing the quiet force that rises when truth meets movement. Rooted in her background as a Reiki Grand Master and Human Design Consultant, her practice is shaped by presence, energetic precision, and embodied awareness. Color becomes resonance, line becomes intention, and each composition reflects a state of internal alignment expressed through form. Lipsey’s work appears in international publications and curated exhibitions, and her paintings are held in private collections across Canada, the United States, and Europe. She creates with devotion, depth, and a clear sense of purpose, offering collectors work that carries both aesthetic impact and grounded energetic presence.
