About this artwork
Oil, cold wax and mixed media painting on cradled birch wood panel with edges exposing the wood surface and matte finish. The painting is ready to hang. In this series Lypiridou works with layers upon layers of acrylic, oil, wax, marble dust and a variety of crayons, scraping and re-applying colour multiple times, constantly revealing and concealing different parts of the painting, in an attempt to render visible the tentative, the fluid, the ephemeral.… She draws inspiration from the world of nature and all its exuberant wilderness while trying to bring to the fore that instance of transition from the more ambivalent moments of existence to a more lucid, generous, translucent plane, where distinctions and dichotomies unite and decide to celebrate the complexity of life itself. This painting attempts to reconcile the various forces at play in nature and fine a balance that is impulsive and conciliatory in equal measure.
« I consider myself lucky for I can make a profession out of my passion for color and paint. »
