About this artwork
With "Dance of Petals," I wanted to explore the boundary between the static nature of a still life and the vibrant dynamism of wild life. My goal wasn't simply to portray a vase of flowers, but to capture the invisible, almost choreographic energy emanating from organic matter.
In this work, I used a very rich impasto technique, working the oil paint decisively to give each petal its own three-dimensional physicality. I'm fascinated by how light… can "walk" across the ridges of color, changing the perception of the work depending on the time of day. The contrast between the warm, passionate hues of the flowers and the cerulean, almost ethereal background serves to project the subject toward the viewer, inviting not only visual but almost tactile contact.
