About this artwork
The inspiration for this 30x40 cm painting came during a high-altitude hike, at that precise moment when autumn begins to ignite the valley while the peaks have already welcomed the first snow. I was struck by the deafening silence and the purity of the light: I tried to translate this visual sensation into a dance of chromatic contrasts, where the clear blue of the sky dialogues with the orange and rust of the vegetation.
To convey the raw strength… of the rock and the softness of the undergrowth, I chose to work with oil using a very rich impasto technique. I applied the paint in thick layers, almost sculpting the peaks onto the canvas to give them a tangible three-dimensionality. This materiality is crucial: I want the viewer to almost feel the texture of the snow and the roughness of the stone under their fingers.
