About this artwork
I was struck by a photograph of Italian actor Roberto Benigni in his distinctive and enthusiastic way of speaking to people. This is my tribute to him in a simple black and white painting.
The realism of the composition only interested me in specific areas. I focused on hands and gestures, since dialogue is often primarily visual due to hand movement.
I wanted the enthusiasm of the persuaders to be perceptible. The portraits are reduced to their… presence only. The character on the left is concave, indicating that he receives the speaker's entire message. I wanted to convey the airy atmosphere of the theme by painting everything in light gray tones, which are light—optimistic, serene. It's the color of the message. The fact that it's painted horizontally creates its balance, stability, and comfort.
