Rejoice, my soul is a work born at the crossroads of memory, healing, and rebirth.
The black silhouette embodies the universal. Without features, it allows everyone to recognize themselves in it.
The wreath of flowers is a wreath of joy, “beauty instead of ashes” (Isaiah 61:3). It carries the promise of transformation: what was broken can rise again, what was withered can bloom anew. It also evokes Mary Magdalene in the garden, when the risen Jesus… calls her by name. A single word, and her inner darkness opens to renewed joy.
The garment, made of African wax print and adorned with gold, speaks of original identity, heritage, and restored dignity. The gold symbolizes the inalienable value of love, and the blue, dyed into the fabric, represents inner peace, a breath that soothes and recenters.
