About this artwork
Marie Danielle’s pop art is a playful representation of her relationship to nature and her sensitivity to the environment. Symbols of rabbits and penguins, often accompanied by words and phrases come together to create this whimsical collection. To Marie, rabbits represent the spirit of freedom that comes from running through a green field and exploring the woods. Penguins represent the blissful state produced by moving slowly under the sun and swimming… playfully in the water. In tandem with her other work that centres abstract natural imagery, these artworks rely on a love of being outdoors and experiencing nature. The caring nature of rabbits and penguins speaks to a child-like wonder, and the words used in these pieces reinforce themes of love and tenderness. This collection embodies connection, between earth and water, earth and people, people with one another and the artist with her art.
« Don't fight against something, stand for something. I stand for freedom, peace, abundance and love. »
Marie-Danielle Leblanc is a prize winning Canadian artist with international exposure. With an eye towards environmentalism, Leblanc work with encaustic, an ancient technique using molten beeswax and pigments — the same process the Greeks and Egyptians used over 2,000 years ago. Some of their encaustic paintings, like the Fayum portraits, are still perfectly vibrant today. Her work continues this tradition, but with a contemporary vision. When you collect an encaustic painting, you’re not only acquiring art, you’re investing in something proven to last for millennia — timeless, natural, and beautiful.
