About this artwork
*“Space of Branches”* is an abstract work that explores not the branches themselves, but the space between them. Fine, interwoven lines evoke stems or tree branches stretching upward and outward, forming an organic, dynamic structure. Yet the focus shifts toward the airy gaps between these lines — delicate, almost transparent areas filled with a soft sense of light.
The palette is subtle and balanced, dominated by cool bluish-green tones, gently… contrasted by warm pink and reddish accents. These vertical elements introduce depth and can be seen as either tree trunks or streams of light filtering through the composition. The softly blurred background enhances a sense of atmosphere, where forms dissolve into a quiet, contemplative space.
The work invites the viewer to slow down and engage with what is often overlooked — the silence, air, and light that exist between forms. It reflects on space as a presence of its own, creating a calm and introspective visual experience.
Marina Skvortsova, educated in St. Petersburg and Oslo, works primarily with mixed media—combining acrylic base layers and watercolor pencils. She masterfully weaves surrealism and chinoiserie, infusing her compositions with intricate Eastern decorative motifs and dreamlike imagery. Her work evokes a sense of wonder and invites viewers into fantastical, safe dream worlds, opening metaphorical doors to realms of imagination and beauty.
